An alternative way of learning art

Explore, experience, and execute

An alternative way of producing art

The SpcaeEka Artists’ Residency is an alternate space which supports artists to think, live and create. Our main goal is to lay the groundwork towards building a suitable space through strengthening the interconnectedness of thought, practice and creativity.

This space, embodied in its alternate culture, lifestyle, thought and art forms is spread across three main streams ;

‘Education’ encompasses the knowledge generated within the space,  while the wide array of art forms generated are categorized under ‘Productions’. The ‘Research’ component supports both the alternative education and art generation that is driven by this space through providing the needed experience and knowledge through exploration.

“ Ideas draw people together. We need to create the space for this. A space in which we can question ourselves, and make ourselves better. Where we can observe the passing moment with wisdom. Where we can train our minds, words and deeds.”

The SpcaeEka Artists’ Residency acts as a hub that provides opportunities for continuous research and development of knowledge systems and art forms. The three streams of Education, Productions and Research enrich each other and push this artistic community to create a space where education and creative work are based upon a conscious awareness and understanding.

“ Ideas draw people together. We need to create the space for this. A space in which we can question ourselves, and make ourselves better. Where we can observe the passing moment with wisdom. Where we can train our minds, words and deeds.”

“ Ideas draw people together”. In order to survive, people act on they believe in, or what they don’t believe in. They use time and space without any clear intention.  In this situation it is vital to have a space where we can act in mind, word and deed, in a  way that is beneficial not only to ourselves, but also to the outside world.

People have lived communally for the entirety of history, exchanging knowledge, sharing labour, and enriching each other’s lives. This way of being has been eroded in modern times, leaving people isolated amidst large societies, aimless and frustrated. In this environment an artist needs to  think beyond how to increase their fanbase, and embrace a much larger goal- to wield their artistic sense and abilities to advance humanity along a clear path. To do this, an artist needs to ask “Within the whole, what is my purpose, and  how do I position myself?”. While a clear understanding of the answers is needed, the first step towards answering this is to bridge the gap between one’s personal life and one’s life as an artist. Herein arises the need for a space in which an artist can practice such a lifestyle. The main function of the SpaceEka Artists’ Residency is to provide the necessary cultural and philosophical backdrop to support artists to experience this way of life. The resulting art forms created within this alternate culture and lifestyle, held together with its underlying philosophy, will open up a new dimension for humanity.
